RE: Tough Merriams - Need Advice

My experience with Merriams in the Black Hills is that they are very nomadic. The tracking studies found that they frequently cover 12 miles a day. Just because there is sign doesn't mean they are...

RE: Remingtons new HD loads

Remington stopped loading these over a year ago. Anything found on the selves since then was leftover stock. Getting harder to find now.

RE: Best time to hunt Merriums??

Whenever you can get out. I've shot most of mine midmorning or early afternoon. Hunt them all day if you can.

RE: undertaker choke tube

In my two win 1300s it shoots anything as long as it's 6 shot very well. Doesn't seem to matter what brand. If it's 40 yards or closer it's dead. Getting 12-18bone hits at 40 yards.

RE: Black Hills turkeys

Look for birds in the lower elevations early in the season. There'll be more birds there and they'll be more receptive. They'll have hens as they always do, especially eary in the season. Anyone who...

RE: heavyweight in 870

I don't believe they are made in 20 gauge. Nitro and Hevishot both load 20 gauge hevishot loads for the 20 though. Winchester Elite can out with a 20 gauge loading this spring but only in #5 shot....

RE: Federal Flitecontrol problems?

Was that .670 choke recommendation for a standard bored barrel? A .670 would be a very tight choke in your overbored 835.

RE: choke question?

The winchester super x2 is back bored with a standard bore diameter of .741. In most chokes a xxfull is .680 and a xxxfull is .670. So yours at .665 is very tight. I'm guessing that #6 lead or #5 or...

RE: Federal flight control

Thw word on them is that they don't like tight chokes or choke with wad stripping ports. Just to let you know that how a particular load will perform in your gun you'll have to shoot it to find out....

It will vary by gun. I'm getting great pattern's with the Fed. FC with #5 shot out of my.655 CNC in my stoeger.

RE: Best youth turkey gun?

If you're going shoot at turkeys long enough you'll eventually miss. It happens. Just keep after them. Sounds like you've got a lot of birds to work.

RE: Rain for the next week and a half....ugh

They'll stay on roost a bit longer and head to the fields, roads or meadows. With a period of rain that long you should be able to pattern them pretty well.

Good Luck!

RE: SHOOTING BIRDS AT 30+YRDS!!

I hope it's a lot more than 10 hits in an 8-10" circle. Because that's just not enough to get the job reliably done. My daughters 870 20 gauge is getting 15+ bone hits and a nice even pattern at 40...
