Vortex Vemom

I purchased a Vortex Venom reflex/red dot sight for my M&P Shield and a base to put it on. Well after removing the rear sight and installing the base then the red dot it was definitely not to my liking. Normally when I bring up the Shield the sights are either right on or just slightly off target. With this sight, no matter how I adjusted it, I could not find the dot readily which is the reason for getting it in the first place.
Maybe because I'm used to looking down lower, i.e. right on top of the slide or what but everything came back off the Shield and were returned. Luckily I purchased the items off of Amazon so returning was a snap.
My advice, if you're planning on buying a reddot scope for your handgun see if you know anyone that has one to try it out first
Now I have to re-sight in the open sights.

Maybe because my eyes are steadily getting worse despite a couple of surgeries and Laser corrections, I like the holo Red Dots. Took only a few minutes to make the correction on where I was looking, the red dot was higher than I'm used to, but I picked up the difference and imprinted it fairly quickly. The trick for me was to shoot it like a shotgun both eyes open, instead of a pistol where I usually squint my off eye. A nearly instant system for me to shoot a pistol is to look at my target and almost instantly refocus on the front sight. Since my eyes are crap the front sight is hard to focus on, red dots stand out. A lot of precision pistol shooters are switching to holo sights since they became legal in competition and are winning with them.
Everybody is a little different, but they work for me. Hard to explain but the red dot being parallax free seems to help in some way I find hard to explain.

Mudder...I'm thankful that my eyes are still relatively good for anything beyond 3 ft. So using the open sights on my pistols are not a problem. The reason I purchased the Venom for my Shield was because I am going to be assuming the security responsibilities at my church and, should the unfortunate need arise, to make a precise shot without injuring innocents.
I couldn't get use to it and a delay in picking up the red dot could result in a tragedy.
