Sight base/rings for old Remington 788?
 

I'd like to put a scope on this old rifle, but sight bases appear scarce.
Weaver told me which part numbers I need, but won't sell direct and I see them out of stock with no backorder.
It's a right handed .308 short action.
Help with sources please.

I searched there myself, and was frustrated by the fact that either the description on the Weaver products is wrong. It lists .308, .243, and 6mm, but says long action or extra-long action, which these are not. :/ Without the actual Weaver part#, it's hard to tell if it's the correct size.

788's were made in many different chamberings, from 44 mag, up to the 6mm, the 6mm/243/7mm-08/308 were the longest.

Take it to a good gun shop and have them put bases and rings on it. There are many bases and rings besides weaver.
