Default Help deciding on a scope

I finally got some cash together to get a new scope for my Disc Extreme. I’m currently using a 2-7X Vortex Viper that I borrowed from my .308 Sako. Whether the Knight keeps the Viper or it goes back on the Sako and I get something new for the Extreme, I need a new scope and my choice will either be another 2-7X (I really like the size of these for my hunting) or a 3-9X. Some factors to consider are durability, optic quality, decent eye relief (but not too much at the expense of field of view) and warranty/customer service. Price range has a hard ceiling of $250.

One final requirement – the scope has to come from Cabelas as I have a $100 gift card that is part of my allowable budget. I know this limits my choices.

I am happy to go to the maximum $$ in my budget provided it’s money well spent. What I can see in my range:

Bushnell Trophy XLT (3-9) - $139-$169, depending on reticule
Redfield Revenge (2-7, 3-9) - $139-$179
Nikon ProStaff (2-7, 3-9) - $149-$179
Burris Fullfield II (2-7, 3-9) - $149-$199
Bushnell Trophy DOA Muzzleloader (3-9) - $169
Redfield Revolution (2-7, 3-9) - $179-$249
Vortex Diamondback (3-9) - $189-$199
Nikon Inline XR Muzzleloader (3-9) - $199-$219
Bushnell Legend Ultra HD (3-9) - $199-$249
Burris Fullfield E1 (2-7, 3-9) - $199-$249
Leupold VX-1 (2-7, 3-9) - $209-$229

So what should I get? Please don’t suggest I save up to get something just a little out of my price limit, any other money I “put aside” will go towards other stuff.

One last question as I am in no particular hurry to pick up the scope. Is there a time of year that Cabelas has the best prices/close-outs? Don’t think I can wait till the end of next season but if that’s the best time, I might try to stay strong.

if you can spare to spend $300 then get yourself a Leupold VX-2, 3-9x40 you will love it, I have many of them

If you want to really save money but still get a decent scope, then look at the link below, I have one just like in the link on a Mossberg 500 20ga, for the money it's decent, friend of mine has two as well on his shotgun & muzzleloader

Of course these are sold at Cabelas !!!

Out of that list, I would probably go with one of the Burris scopes or the Vortex Diamondback, but that's just me. If you can go another $50, OpticsPlanet, SWFA, and CameraLand have Vortex Viper 3-9X 40mm BDC for $300. I have a 2-7X Viper on my Marlin 336 and wish I could find another one for what I got that one for ($150).

Thanks for the replies so far. Grizzlyman, I have the 2-7X Viper as well and love it. I picked it up just before they went on that crazy closeout price, alas, they are no more. I'm tempted to go for the 3-9X Viper at $300 but I have a lot of other things that need money so will likely stay with my $250 ceiling.

If I had to choose from among your selections, I believe that I would buy the Redfield

Redfield Revolution 2x7x33, preferably without the Accurange. I still have two, one is on my 54-120 Brush Gun and the other is on my ULA. It fits the Knight DISC action very well and offers a nice amount of eye relief. Both of mine are Accurange, IMO its less cluttered than the Nikon BDC but more "cluttered" than the Burris.

I actually like the Burris FFII a tiny bit better (at the current pricing) but the eye relief is not as good. When i bought my Revolutions they were about $150 which was a steal IMO.

I also have a older Nikon Omega 3x9x40 BDC 250 which is similar to the Nikon XR. It also fits the Knight action pretty good but i really don't like the BDC. Otherwise its a very nice scope for the Knights. You may not like the 5" of eye relief though.

I'd encourage you to add the Minox ZV3 to your list. 3-9x40, great glass, and a lifetime replacement warranty.

I certainly would. Unfortunately Cabelas does not, to my knowledge, carry them.
