Question Another AR scope question?

Trying to decide what to put on my AR. I'm still confused.
Since I've never shot an AR very much and not sure how much I will be shooting, I need help in deciding on what kind of scope to purchase. Will probably just target practice or shoot coyotes.

1) Standard rifle scope (like Nikon Buckmaster)
2) Red/Green Dot
3) M-223 AR Riflescope

Does one have an advanage over the other?
Would the red/green dot work for coyotes?
Does the red/green dot have a max range?
Is red/green dot mainly for close range?
Is there and advanage with a M-223 scope?

Any info you experienced AR shooter's could give me would help.

I put a Firefield 3x30 Combat on my latest AR and i've been pleased with it so far. I wanted a compact scope with a standard duplex that wasn't real expensive and this scope was just what i was looking for. Also you have the option to illuminate the center of the duplex red or green if you choose to. Lots of optice out there to choose from, good luck in your search. Mike

Probably 150-250 yards would be a good estimate.

10 to 12 power if shooting coyote "sized" targets.

That doesn't mean .................somewhere in the body !

Should a person stay away from the the cheaper scopes? The old saying "you get what you pay for" probably applies here.

I had a Bushnell and it was junk, I got a tasco and its still on my rifle 12+years later...I also have used a centerpoint red/green illuminated scope with good success ($70) your mileage may vary....223 doesn't kick much so its not hard on scopes...

There are differences in cheap Bushnells and the more expensive Bushnells. The Bushnell on my 280 is a Elite 6500 4.5-30 it isnt cheap costs me over $800. Tascos are garbage in all prices ranges! You get what you pay for when it comes to scopes, you buy a $49 Bushnell and you will have junk, you buy a $500+ Bushnell and you have a really nice scope. Tasco is about like a BSA, not worth the box they are packaged in.
