Which Scope for a .222 Remington
 

I just got an old Savage .222 (Revelation model 225) and I am going to replace the scope. I just don't know what to get. I don't want to spend more than $200. I will be using this gun on groundhogs and coyotes out to about 300 yards. Thanks!

I've got a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 scope that I use on my muzzleloader and I've been happy with it. I've had it for about 3 years and it's got a few dents and dings from use. It's about $220 and I realize that's a little over your budget, but for an extra $20 you can get a decent scope.

Alternatively, the Nikon Buckmaster series has a 3-9x40 right around the $200 range. I have one, but I just recently purchased it for a .22. So, I can comment on the quality or reliability. Time will tell if it was a good purchase.

There are a lot of other scopes in that price range or less. You might look into Burris and Bushnell, too. I know Bushnell has some higher power scopes under $200 (look at Trophy XLT series), but I don't know how good they are.

I would put a 4x12x40 on it. A groundhog is a small target at 300 yards, and a 3x9 will have you wishing for more. There are a few scopes in this price range (Nikon, Bushnell, Redfield, etc.) or maybe you can find a deal on a slightly better scope if you look around. There are a bunch of "refurbished" scopes on the market - but beware of the warranty on them.

I'd suggest checking out S.W.F.A. for a Vortex Diamondback with either a plex or the Dead Hold reticle. If not, run thru the SampleList there and look for a deal on used, demo and discontinued scopes. Good folks there...have personally met / talked to several folks there. Good luck.

Mine are 4X-16X 42MM scopes.

I'm looking at the Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 BDC. Amazon has it for $210 but I saw it on sale for like $169. I'm thinkin if it drops that low again, I'm gonna have to jump on it!

In Ohio we don't have that privilege. So it'd be nice to get a closer look at a "pink mist" on a groundhog at 300 yards through a 12 or 14 power scope.

opticsplanet.com has it on sale for $197 and amazon has the Nikoplex reticle for $189.

You're tough to keep up with...............:hail: but us mere mortals need a little more magnification when you get older and are shooting ground squirrel at 300 + yards ~ ~ YES, I need more than 9X !

I am not a big fan of the BDC. The normal Nikoplex would be my choice. Nikon will do the job for your Triple Deuce.
