good scope for a ML.
 

i am getting a CVA optima after this deer season and it already has the scope rings installed and i was wanting to get some opinions on a good scope for a reasonable price as i dont have the cash for a really expensive one... any help would be greatly appreciated...

just remember you gets whats you pay for. but seriously to begin with go with a bushnell banner (running around $100 ) but tried to save for a leupold shotgun/muzzleloader ( aprox $200 ) the best scope i've owned to this date is a leupold vx1 1x4 x20 with heavy duplex. @ 1 power fov is 75 feet & great to stay on a deer @ that distance. well worth the money & never had a problem with any leupold

yeah thats basically what im gonna try to get is a starter scope to use until i can get the cash saved up for a really good scope...

A decent scope is the Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40 normally sells for $140 on sale at Cabelas for $90, you can't go wrong. I have it on a back up mossberg 500 20ga., my friend also has it on his mossberg 500 20ga

I'd put a straight 4X on it. Several decent ones include Leupy, Weaver and IOR (best glass of the bunch).

if you are going with a banner scope try to get a circle x reticle thats what i started out with seems to be quicker on a moving target & when you are target shooting nothing beats that circle on a circle
a 3x9x40 with a circle x reticle runs around $100.

I put the Burris Fullfield E1 2-7x on my TC Omega... takes a few shots to get used to the reticle, but I really like it. The original Burris Fullfield II can still be found for a steal and they are a great scope also.

Not sure of your budget. If your ML season is a ways off, then I suggest that you put aside th $100 now and save up these next several months and buy a scope in the $250 range rather than a scope in the $100 range. losts better glass in this price range.

Shots with a ML are usually going to be makeable out to about 200 yards max, so I see no need pay extra for the 8X to 12X powered variables. Something like 1.5 - 6 x 40 mm variable should be excellent.

Leupold, Vortex, Nikon, Burris, Pentax, and Bushnell all make good scopes in this price range. Everyone has their favorites ... in the $250 range I am partial to the Leupold line. Up to now I have not been a fan of Nikon scopes, but I recently put one on my Cross Bow. And frankly I am impressed. This is a BDC type reticule and though I am still getting used to the "business" of the reticule, it sure came in handy during this past bow season. And was bright and clear right up to the end of the day. I think that Nikon also makes a BDC model specifically designed for muzzle loaders.

I put a Bushnell/Banner dusk-to-dawn on my ML, alo put one on my slug gun (Rem 870 12 gauge), both failed within 3 years. IMHO, money down the drain. Maybe the Nikon Prostaff line is worth a look, or some of the lower end Vortex's. But I think you'll come out ahead in the long run getting up to the 150-200 range. Seasons over, shop around, look for sales. (I replaced my 2 low end Bushnells with Nikons, (Omega on ML, Slughunter on shotgun), I am satisfied with both so far).

i got the cva optima for christmas and went to my local gun shop today and picked up a bushnell scope not exactly sure what the model name on it is i know it's 3-9x40 got a really good deal from the guy i normally deal with out there since he couldnt find the caps to cover the adjusment screws he sold me the scope for around 20 bucks.... he told me that the scope is normally around 50....
