Nikko Stirling? never heard of them

My Dad had a scope on his .270 that got messed up and since they no longer made the model he had they mailed him a brand new scope that was of equal value to his old scope. The only problem is its a scope I have never heard of and cant find anywhere like BassPro that even carries them. Just want to know if this thing is garbage or not

Its a Nikko Stirling Diamond 3-12X56. I dont even know what the value of this thing is cause I cant find anyone online that carries one so I can trade it in on a Leupold or something.

Nikko is not known to be of great quality. Likely it's China / Pacific Rim manufactured.

I was only able to find them for sale in Europe since the prices were in Euros but after converting them to US dollars seems it sells for $450-$500. Might just trade it in on a Leupold or Bushnell. Hell I couldnt even figure out how I was supposed to zero it in once I got it mounted and bore sighted. The elevation dial doesnt have a point of reference so I would just be blindly adjusting the thing. It is made in China but honestly today what isnt?

They are nowhere near a $4-500 scope. I would be surprised if you got over $100 for it. New 3-9 Diamonds go for $140 at SWFA and honestly they are usually a little high.

It should be comparable to a Bushnell or Simmons. If he got a good deal or not depends on what type of scope he sent in.

I saw a used gun with one and they look impressive so I was a little excited that I might have found a steal for a nice gun at a good price and best of all it was left handed. Not many used left hand guns around. It has been a little while now but when I did a lot of searching I found that the scope was not all that great. Maybe I read some stuff at the web site that has the sample list. I think they sell that brand too.

I think it is a pretty low end scope with not overly critical reviews but bad enough that I would not consider having one on my hunting gun and I never bought that gun because the price was not good enough to make just the gun worth it.

I remember them 40 years ago. Didn't know that they were still around. Comparable to a low end bushnell.

nikko at one time was made in ***an buy nikko's own factory and was supposed to be on par with mid priced scopes of the time. later they switched to the hakko plant, and then else where (probably prc). theyave always sold decently well in countries that really embrace FT and FTR airguns as they have some solid offerings purpose built for those competitions. supposedly they still use ***anease glass but i doubt it. they are pretty much on par with any of the better chinease scopes, when they work they can be great, when they poop the bed, they put a taco bells restroom to shame.
