Nikon Buckmasters scope

I have a Remington 700 SPS 7mm-08 that I have done alot of work to [bedding, trigger, lapped lugs,re-crowned etc.] the rifle is extremely accurate my question is the rifle presently has A Leupold Vari-x 2 3x9x40 scope I am thinking of buying a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40 scope any thoughts? I would rather buy A Leupold vx-3 4.5-14x40 but the funds are not there right now. any help would be appreciated thanks chad

Stay with the Leupold or by one used. The Nikon Buckmasters (I had one many years ago) is a good scope for the money, the Leupolds are better, also look on cabelas.com I know they had a sale on them, I picked one up for $219 (3-9x40)

Is there something wrong with scope that's on it or are you looking for more magnification?

My exact thoughts. To me...you have an excellent scope for your gun already, I'd leave it and save the $ if it was me. I've had a 4.5-14 leupold...personally I prefer the 3-9. I've had alot more use for 3x than 10-14x.

Those 2 scopes are not even the same working type of scopes. The Nikon, if I am thinking right is the SF model and has the turrets to adjust your MOA if you have your ballistic data. Depends what you wanna use it for. The Nikon model mentioned here is for long range shooting

I have both of the 4.5x14x40 scopes that you mentioned. The Leupold is better, but the Buckmaster scope is a very good scope in it's price range. The Buckmaster is a good scope.

You would be downgrading going from a Leupold to a Nikon.

I'd save my $$$ now, save up along the way and buy a great scope down the road .... rather than drop coins on a Buckmaster now. And in my opinion, you have a as good a scope on your rifle as a Nikon Buckmaster.

Someone out there might know ... the Buckmaster might be a "Prostaff" with the Buckmaster "name". I am not sure.

I agree with this part !

I do use a 4X-16X scope and I'm glad to have the high-end power available when I need it.
