model 700 scope rail.

Hey everyone i am new here.
And like most new people i have a question.
I have had a model 700 in 300 rum for quite some time now and always had the same old scope and everything. well yesterday i went into my local shop and got a new rail for my 700 long action for a new scope i had bought. It wont fit, so today i am bringing it back with the rifle to have the guy fit the correct one on it. Are the RUM actions that much longer? The rail screw holes did not meet up at all.
Thanks ahead of time.

The model 700 takes a lot of different bases.

..............but why not just pick "weaver style" bases and be done with it ?

Ya im just gonna get a two piece weaver like i have always used in the past. kinda strange that the screw holes would not line up at all. oh well. back to basics.

I prefer a one piece rail, as I think it's more stable.
With that said, you have to select the Long or Short Action Base, depending upon the caliber in question.
