Slug Scope?

new gun new scope!

was thinking of a nikon slughunter, but compared it to the leupold ultimate slam which I did like more.

Now my decision is whether to get the
2-7x33
or
3-9x40

same price essentially so no big deal.

My first slug scope was a 1x red dot, then I wanted more magnification and went to a 1.5-4.5, then I got a 2-7x,

I'm not really planning to shoot long range, but it's possible, really 200yds or less I plan to, but I hear guys pushing that nowadays with slugs, but in reality most shots should be under 100yds, maybe I'll take a 150 one day, but if I'm grouping well at 200 and have a shot, I would not hesitate to take one.

Also stalking around, if I jumped a deer, would I rather have 2x or 3x?? also if it were set to 9x instead of 7x and jumped a deer I figure I'd rather have 7x, but I guess worrying about accidentals etc...don't make much sense.

Leupy has a new fixed 3X available thru their custom shop. Ya might want to check it out!

Good advice, Bugs...

We're talking DEER here, not prairie dogs...

I've killed a lot of woodchucks between 200 and 300 yards with fixed power 2.5x and 4X scopes... Also killed a few deer to caribou sized critters out to 400 yards with a fixed 4X.. I don't think I ever missed a shot for lack of magnification...

I can't imagine the utility of a high power variable for shots at deer sized game at ranges of 200 yards or less...

A quality 3X scope like the Leupold would be a better tool for the job..

Just my humble opinion....

I don't know much about scopes but on my slug guns (2) I have fixed power, one is 1.5x power and the other 2x, as I said I know little about scopes but mine are designed for shotguns, (I don't know if a regular rifle scope is OK or not) maybe someone with more knowledge will jump in and let us know. If it is a dedicated shotgun scope I would prefer the fixed power,(my shots are mostly under 100yrds) if I were to switch it to a rifle
( a some time) then maybe a 3x9 might be more attractive, jmop Doc

On all my slug guns I have Leupold VX-II all in 3-9x40, those scopes made for shotguns only are a gimmick
