Which scope is a better deal?
Ok I have a guy with two scopes that are basically brand new in packaging. He wants 100 a piece for them. Just wondering which one would be a better deal. The first is a:
Simmons .44mag 4-12x44 the second one is a: BSA catseye 4-16x44 Which ever one I decide to get will be going on a thompson center encore. Please give me your honest opinion on both scopes, and your pick. Thanks |

Well there out of stock on that one.....Thats a good price. All the other websites I found that had that scope were way more expensive. I'll show him that link and see if he'll go lower on the price. Again though which scope is a better scope? Thanks for any help.

Neither, buy the new Redfield 3-9x40 or 4-12x40. Great scope for the price! Made by Leupold, lifetime warranty.

Out of those two the Simmons is a much much better scope. No way I'd even consider the BSA, as they are pretty much crap. That being said you can get much better scopes for not much more money. The Nikon Prostaff's can be had for $100 right now and I'd prefer one of those to the Simmons, the Burris FFII is a ton better scope and you can get them on sale at SWFA for $119 right now for the 3-9x40. Another option to consider if you want a Simmons is one of the Whitetail Classics at Natchez. They have pretty good prices on them.

Neither. They are both absolute crap.
That Burris 3-9X40 FFII is ten times the scope that either of those. |
Dont go cheap on your scope! Your rifle is only as good as your scope. I will spend the same on my scope as I do my rifle, I havnt been let down yet. All three scopes mentioned above I wouldnt even put on a 22 Rimfire.JMO.

well thanks for the honest opinions......I was actually looking at the redfield 4-12x40. The cheapest place I could find it still was 220 bucks. I went to the local sporting goods stores and they had some nikons. They were around 150-250 bucks. I didn't really care for them that much. They just weren't my pick. The reticle i didn't like, and they didn't have much eye relief. I thought the simmons .44 mag series of scopes were like their top of the line stuff?

Beware the Nikon Pro-staff.
I bought one. It was similar quality to a BSA scope. Go to Cabelas/Bass Pro or any other place and read the reviews on the Pro-staff's. They are not the same breed as Nikon's other scopes IMO. |
