Nuts!!!!!!

I have a Unertl Hawk 4X that I've had on different guns for around 30 years. It has extra fine crosshairs w/a dot in the middle.

It has taken more game than some could imagine. I've had it on a .300Win mag, .308 Norma mag, .308, .270, 12ga, 30-30, .22, and most recently a muzzleloader.

Today I shot a deer with my muzzleloader topped with that Unertl. After the deer was skinned/hung I cleaned the gun. When I was done, I looked through the scope and one of the crosshairs was broken.

Time to retire the Unertl.

It's a high quality piece of equipment. It's one of those things I was attached to for sentimental reasons...

Bummer for sure. Aren't there any vintage scope repair persons around any more?

If nobody on here can help, go to www.opticstalk.com and see if someone on there can refer you to a repair shop.

From another site:
Parson's Scope Repair Service
2213 Smith Rd.
Ross, Ohio 45061-0192
513-867-8380

May be worth investigating.

Thanks guys.

I actually sent the scope back to Unertl a few years ago. Their repair guy (Chuck) re-charged the scope and put a new eye-piece on it. That was $170. At this point I think I'm just going to cut my losses and put it on the shelf.

I hate to do it...but I'll have to put one of the other scopes I have laying around on my muzzy.

I hate to be rude, but time to retire the antique and buy a good scope, I have a 10X Unertl " vulture" model on a pre 64 model 70 Winchester Varmiter 220 swift, that I recently bought, it was a good scope 50+ years ago, but like everything else of that time period, it is out dated, there are botom end scopes that are produced today that are better than that fossil, it is good for a collector but not a shooter. Do you want to buy a fossil? I have a 10x Unertl "Vulture" that is not going to be on any of my guns.

How much for the fossil? $100, i'll take it as long as it's in good condition.
