Many years ago off the coast of Catalina in Calif, we squid jigged under lights in the middle of the night.
We were over a huge school and the deck hands basically used a dip net.
They have a pearl colored squid jig which is diamond shaped with a treble like hook at the bottom. You pretty much just bob the thing up and down intill you feel some resistance and reel it in.
There were thousands of squid and it was pretty fun.
