I just got back from Myrtel Beach caught about 30 spots and a few small small sharks I might have some pics some time to show you all.

Way to go on the spot. We used to catch them off my in-law's dock on the Chesapeake. If you filet them and cut them into strips, they make the best bait for bluefish, strriped bass, weakfish, speckled trout, flounder and drum. Spot are also very good eating. Did you nail any croakers? They fight great for thier size.

Nope all we caught were spots a flownder and a few small sharks. The spots are very good eatin.

Spots, Is that what we call porgies up here? If so there are party boats who target those fish . They supposedly catch them around 14" but I've only seen them around 10. And about 8" off the surf. Congradulations on your catch.:) Don't want to admit the times I've come home skunked from surf fishing.:D

Spots are not porgies or scups. They are more closely related to croakers. They catch them a lot in the mid to lower Chesapeake Bay. You can buy them in South Jersey at the bait stores sometimes but they are hard to come by. Real name is Norfolk Spot.
