Any Salt Water Fishermen?

Gentlemen,

I'll soon be making a trip to the Gulf of Mexico (Florida's northwest panhandle). I do a lot of fishing from the beaches, jeddy's and a bit from local piers.

Do any of you have a favorite set up for night time Sharks?

I'm pretty sure that the cobia and pompano should just be starting up at that time too. Of course I'll bring two-three different set ups for the variety of game.

Maybe one of you knows of a good fishing area other than the Northwest panhandle? Not to worry, I won't fish your honey hole;)

Your input is much appreciated, :)

I'm a salt water fisherman but I fish for Reds, Specks, and flounder bayside. I have a 23ft Redfin with tunnel hull and use it to get into the extreme shallow waters of the bay. These areas hold a lot of slot reds and is fun catching them that shallow.

Good Luck to you
Jason

Down in the Keys I would just put a filet on a large hook with wire leader and enough weight to get it out there and wait. Fish for snappers and specks with a smaller rod and wait for the inevitable.

BarnesX.308,

Of all the baits I've used, they(sharks) seem to like spanish mackeral the best. What's your best?

Just looking for some more good ideas;)

I used filets from false albecore and a big jack crevalle. They liked the false albie the best. I also caught a couple nurse sharks on barracuda fillets but I don't think you can get them in northern florida. I whole mackerel, butterflied would be great. We're going to the Bahamas in May and I'm going to do some night fishing off our dock. I'll be fishing for mutton and mangrove snappers with my spinning rod while I have a whole, butterflied fish on my larger rig. Should be interesting. Good luck.

I haven't done much fishing at all for quite a while, but I used to fish for snook all the time. Wonderful fish.

I pull in flounder, bluefish, and sea bass myself and every so often I go for sandbar sharks and they'll taste like catfish. But I wonder do any of you guys go for snook.

Iget out a few times each season off the coast of Ocean City for some deep sea fishing, and do a decent amount in the Chesapeake Bay, but not down in that area. Sounds like a good trip - take a camera!
