Nice fish, the size isn't the thing in Southern California, the number is the fun. If you get into a school of Barred perch, Waleye Perch or Opaleye Perch the fun comes hot and heavy. Two to five pounders (1-2.5 KG) are normal. And if you get lucky and switch to lures at the right time you can bag a Tuna following the Perch. You can fill up a freezer jiffy quick. I've used a four hook leader with red yarn as bait and pulled in two at a time. The limit for Perch is ten a day, if you fish evening tide and the morning tide twenty fish isn't hard to do with an occasional Tuna or Makeral as a bonus. The large schools are usually seasonal fishing except for the Opaleye that are around all year.
