LURE or not?
My friend went off shore fishing,last summer. The went on a charter off the coast of Mass.,i think. But he has told me of a lure,i quess that is what it was,that was lead and weighted 14 to 17 ozs.and was long and thin.
What are these and what do they look like. The boat crew supplied them to the guys fishing. |
You really don't expect an answer from that pathetic description. Could be a plastic eel or any number of off shore lures.

They have the jig in 2oz increments from 8 to 30oz. Used for bottom fishing Cod, Haddock, Pollock, cusk, Hake, Wolf Fish. Bounce it off the bottom with a teaser on the swivel and another teaser 3 feet up.

Several years ago I got hooked on fishing for ground fish off the Maine, NH and Massachusetts coastline. I started out on party (head boats) using their terminal gear and then bought my own. I have been out on most of the presently operating commercial operations as well as some who have gone out of business due to the recent cod regulations in the Gulf of Maine. Sorry to hear my favorite... Captain Bills Charters out of Rye, NH has decided to retire. I learned a lot from Bill and his well trained employees. My choice of rod and reel is Shimano and my choice of jigs are lavjigs which are IMO the finest and most productive jigs on the market for cod, haddock, pollock and all the rest of the usual characters caught in the deep cold water north of Cape Cod. If anyone needs additional info PM me and I'll tell you where I get the jigs and how I rig and fish them.
