120gr Tripple Shock X for 7mm???
I was thinking that the 120gr Tripple shock would be a good bullet for whitetails and antilope in my 7x57 mauser #1. I was wondering what kind of accuracy people were getting?
Thanks Tom |

I can't speak directly for the 7mm, but I've gotten great accuracy with .308cal 180gr TSX bullets in my .300WSM. The average group is just a shade under 1 MOA. Give them a try, I think you'll like them.

RE: 120gr Tripple Shock X for 7mm???
I would load em up in your ol Mauser and have a field day. The new triple shocks are IMHO the greatest thing to happen too big game bullets since the invention of the Nosler Partition many moons ago. The bullets accuracy rivals any ballistic tips yet out penetrates standards such as the partitions, trophy bondeds etc... And they eliminate the only negatives of the old first generation X bullets, accuracy and fouling.
You should be able to crank that 120 up fairly stout too the low 3s. For deer sized game it will be perfect. What they lack in sheer weight they make up for with extra initial muzzle velocity and I can promise you that a 120 TSX will outpenetrate a 140 Accubond, Partition, Trophy Bonded etc... The bullets will NOT come apart either, you don't have to worry about that. I fire a 150 TSX (30 cal) at 3800fps and it performs like a lazer! Those bullets group .5" @ 100yds where my previous 130 Xbullets at nearly 4k would only shoot 1.5" @ 100yds from my same Sako. I also put them in an ol 06 of mine, the 180 TSX Federal Premium VitalShok. They are EXTREMELY accurate in my old 700 (.75" @ 100yds) and that bullet will likewise "poke a hole" in em. ;) Good luck, RA |

RE: 120gr Tripple Shock X for 7mm???
OK...I'll throw water on the fire.....I hate the darn things. way overpriced....my old sako hated....hated them. This is a very unfussy rifle. Went back to the Noslers. I was suspicious when a little side bar came with the bullets authorizing a 5% increase in max powder loads. They are slow, and in my rifle were.....spastic. My 7x57 Steyr likes the 140/139 gr accubonds and Hornady SST's. Regards, Rick.

RE: 120gr Tripple Shock X for 7mm???
Triple Shock's are like any other bullet in the accuracy department. Your rifle will either like them or hate them. Going with the 120 out of a 7MM isn't a bad idea. My Dad kind of does the same thing with his 308. He uses the .30 cal 130 gr. in his 308 to get velocity over 3000 fps. My 280 likes the 140 gr. TSX but not the 160 gr. So, you will have to try them in your particular rifle to find out.

I think I will give these bullets a try, I can get about 3100 fps out of my 7x57 Mauser with them. Should do the trick on deer and antilope.
