Question on action screws!

How tight should the action screws be?Should they be torqued down very tight and should front and back be torqued the same amount?I have 2 winchester featherweights and both are not shooting tight groups, the rear screws wear not that tight, could this be the problem?Should I have them pillar beded? Thanks.

RE: Question on action screws!

I have often heard an arbitrary figure of 65 inch pounds for the front and rear guard screws on an action. I have also seen folks play with the tension as a fine tuning tool for groups. Most shooters torque them too tight - I guess figuring that if a little is good, a bunch is better.

RE: Question on action screws!

According to my gunsmith, 35 inchpounds front and back just enough to hold it in.
