powder measuring question?? help!
 

My cousin reloads his .22 Hornet and can't use our powder measurer because he uses pistol powder and it's too fine, it leaks out. What do you guys use to measure such small amounts 10-12 gr. of fine powder? He uses a scoop he made, but the process is very tme consuming. Any suggestions would be appreciated! JDinAB

What kinda powder measuring devise you using now? I throw it with a RCBS, (kinda junk but what the hey), and wight it on a beam. You can use the lee auto measure deal on the 1000.

I highly suggest you weight those loads. Not a fan of that thrower. I find the auto measure of the Lee pretty accurate. But this is good just to get it close IMO.

It seems to me there would be something wrong with a powder measure that leaks out any type of powder! I can throw W231 and W748 out of mine with no problems at all. It states for 2 to 100 grs of powder. That should include all powders that would normally function through a powder measure. I would have the measure checked out to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Also, what powder is he using?

One thing to consider with that type of powder, could be static. Just throwing that out there. I use a dryer sheet to get rid of the static when using my thrower with light powder like that. I don't know. Could be something to it. When you say leak powder, where?

For larger powder (eg H-1000) for my 7mm it works fine. But the winchester powder isn't a big grain, it is a fine powder, so it comes out the most miniscule parts. Also the neck is so small on the .22 hornet, the hole on the powder measurer is too big. Someone must reload for the hornet??? JDinAB

I've never encountered any powder too fine to be measured in a powder measure.....apparantly this one is totally worn out.....get a Redding or another new one....you should be able to measure the powder and dump to a funnel and get the job done just fine!!
