Bore Conditioning System???

Cabelas has the Tubb Final Finish Bore Conditioning System, it is 5 different abrasive bullets you reload and shoot to smooth and pollish the throat and bore of your rifle. It is $28 and has 75 bullets for callibers .308 and smaller.

Has anyone used this? Would you recomend it, or is there something better?

Thanks

Tom

Just buy some j-b lapping compound and follow the directions and you should be fine;)You can order it from Sinclair International and save some money.I have used it and can only give good results.

RE: Bore Conditioning System???

I ruined a bore with that stuff. I still have the kit if you want it. The bore was already rough as a cob. JB's or nothing would take it out. Firelapped it and viewed with borescope before and after and it rounded off the rifling. Groups went from ~1.1MOA to 2MOA. Tried several combos of ammo and couldn't get my groups back, so I had it rebarreled. I wouldn't do it.

Had the opportunity to see a brand new barrel thru a bore scope and then after it had 4 rounds of a similar product shot thru it.

The barrel looked like it had been shot 500 times. Convinced me NOT to use it.

I use M-PRO7 on all my bbls from day one. It just plain works.

I used it on a Rem 700 once. It was a waste of time.

All this is also a bunch of specialtiy hoop lah that bench rest shooters and other types think it will make your barrel shoot better. Its all a waste of money and time, and thats what they want is your money.Just shoot your gun and it will break in itself. just like wearing a new pair of shoes,or gloves. have fun vangunsmith

Thanks for the info, looks like I will stay away from the bore conditioning systems.

RE: Bore Conditioning System???

I agree with just using some bore paste on a new rifle to smooth things up some. BUT the Tubb system does have it's merits. I used it on an old rifle I had picked up. This thing copper-fouled horribly due to the rough condition of the bore (due to an apparent history of poor cleaning). Anyway, running all the grits of the Tubb system made a BIG difference in it's fouling problem and with accuracy too.

I really wouldn't hesitate to run a set of rounds of the finest two grits through a new factory bore to smooth things up - but I wouldn't do it to a custom barrel.
