Buying brass
 

I was just over at Midway USA, reading the reviews of some .223 brass. I noticed there were a lot of people who had bad brass in a lot of the boxes they got. These would have deformed necks, splits, etc. I have only bought brass in bulk once, and that was buying some Winchester .30-06 brass. I had one case that had a complete case split down one side. I don't weigh my cases, as I am not out to achieve world class groups for hunting rounds, but a thought came to mind. With the exception of pistol brass, I buy brass for the .223, 30-06, and 8mm Mauser one at a time, inspecting each piece before placing it in the bag to buy. I also pay for this, to the tune of about 7 or 8 cents more per round at the local shop rather than buying from Midway in bulk and NOT being able to inspect the brass. How does everyone else feel about this. I would much rather see every piece I buy, then have a whole bunch of brass that I can't use.

BTW-my 45 ACP brass was all given to me, hundreds of rounds, fired God knows how many times, but I will hand select my brass that I use for hot loads brand new and use this other brass for light plinking loads.

I just buy the bulk and have gotten only one or two,per 100,that were bad.Last year i went thru 1000 brass.If you are paying an extra 8 cents per case,IMHO,you are wasting your money.

Well, after looking at the cost of the .223 brass per hunded (which is all the amount I buy for .223 and load 5 times), It would cost $21.04 for the cheapest shipping option. I can buy it at the local gun shop at $.20 each, plus tax, comes to $21.30, so I guess, there really is no savings at all. And I get to pick each piece of brass. I think I will still shop locally for all of my reloading supplies.

If your buying brass for your 223,and feel your being ripped off,then just a tho;ught. buy some once fired military brass.Its cheaper,and you know its good brass.Yes there is more work in reloading it with the primer pocket but you will be happier in the long run. Do thought make sure its all of the same man. for different comapnies brass has different volume capacities as does commerical. vangunsmith

I've been buying my brass from Midway for a long time now usually a 100ct at a time in both 30.06/25.06/ & 38Spl/357Mag. I have found very few out of a batch of each caliber that were not acceptable. So far i've had good luck with Midway brass.

i buy all of my brass from a guy in Virginia, www.deerfieldenterprises.com, he is very resonable, and trustworthy. He usually always sends you 3-6 extra casing just in case something is wrong with one or two. I cannot speak highly enough of Pete! Give him a try!! In fact one time, he shipped me 100 ultra mag casings that never got to me, I called him 2 weeks later, and he sent out another 100 that day!!! A+++ for customer satisfaction! Please check him out.

I've found buying once fired military brass is a good deal. I used to get 5 gallon buckets of .223 from River Valley (http://www.rvow.com/) and they always treated me well. I think the buckets, primed and sized were about $150.
