7x57 Mauser

Which one? 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip or 139 gr Hornady SST Interlock. Any favorite load?

I have used the 7mm Nosler BT for years with great sucess.
I have freinds that shoot the Hornady's and love them .
Either should work great. Work up some loads and kill deer.

good question. I assume you are working on a hunting load. The 139 hornady groups better in my CZ 1/2 inch. The 140 combined technology groups better in my Steyr >1/2 inch. I'm convinced the IMR 4064 is top dog for powder. Shot a WT buck and a doe this year with the combined technology...the buck at 90 yards and the doe at 325....both one shot kills...big buck walked about 20 yards and collapsed dead, doe fell in a heap...never quivered. I've had similar results with the Hornady SST's. Recommend you try both bullets and pick the best one. Good luck, Rick.

I load the 150gr BST in my #1 but the 140s shoot good also. Both willl shoot under 1" at 100 yards with IMR 4350. The SSTs are good bullets also.

Capt.:

I have loaded the 140 BT, but my 7x57 really likes the 150 gr bullets. The 139 gr Hornady Interlock shoots really well in my rifle too, not sure why the 140 BT's don't group at any rate. The powders of choice in the 7x57, H414, RL19, and IMR 4831.These give me the best accuracy and velocity.

Cheers,

35

my 1895 chillian mauser likes the hornady 139g with imr 4350 powder. <1" at 100 yards with the military barrel. great on the few deer i've used it on.

RE: 7x57 Mauser

This for all....I started in ernest working up a decent hunting load for my steyr 7x57 two years ago. I tried various combinations of bullets and powder including both imr and hodgdon 4320, 4350, 4895 and 4831 with fair success. My neighbor who lives up the road a ways stopped by one morning while I was shooting and I found out he had been reloading the 7x57 for over 30 years. Armed with a new brain trust, I took his advice and picked up some imr4064. The results were awesome. Not only did the groups tighten up, but the velocity shot up 100fps with less than max loads. I'm reloading the nosler/win combined technology 140 gr BT and averaging 2920 fps. See pic attached. Sure made my 7mag obsolete as 20 more grs of powder and the kick just ain't worth the 200 fps on WTD. Go figure. If you want the receipe, e-mail me and I'll send it with a pic. can't load pics on this browser. Regards, Rick.
