30-06?

This year i am going to load some 30-06 shells for my dad i finally talked him into trying something besides core lokts even though they do work great. I am a nosler BT man myself but i cant talk him into them. I was wondering what is the best slug to load in the 06. he wants something in the 180gr though i may be able to talk him into 165's or 168gr. What is a good performer in the 30-06?

try the 180 gr Accubond, I think you will find alot Accubond believers on this site. I have seen first hand what an Accubond will do, and trust me you do not have to worry about it failing. I believe the one bullet we did recover retained 64% of its weight, which is very close to Noslers claim of 65% weight retension. I have shifted all of my guns that I reload for over to either B/T's or Accubonds.

Retained weight is way overrated. Probably the best lead core big game bullet ever made, the Nosler partition, sheds a lot of weight, but kills very efficiently. I use 165 gr nosler partitions in my 30-06 for deer.

I use Barnes X bullets for all my hunting. For my 30-06 I use 180 gr. Barnes XBT. Good luck.

I use the Hornady 165 grain Interbond. Excellent accuracy and deadly on game.

Hello deerslayer. If you are deer hunting, the 165gr bullets are the ticket especially for longer range shots. The BC of the 165 gr makes it fly flatter and have more energy at ranges over 300 yards. My son shot two deer with the nosler combined technology 165 grain bal. tips this year with outstanding results. The Hornady SST's are good deer bullets also. If you are hunting elk...go to the 180 nosler partition....they have a new one out this year that is bonded...sounds interesting, good luck and regards, Rick.

One good thing about the 30-06 is that almost any decent bullet will shoot pretty well in the 30-06 and perform well too. As you see here there are many recomenddations here. I load the Sierra 150 grain Pro Hunter or the Nosler ballistic tip most of the time. The partition though may be the best bullet of all for everything. The 165 may do a little less meat damage if thats a concern.

I have been using the sierra 150 Gr. boat tail for years in my 06 and love them. They are good for taking the long shots. and seem to hold up well. They are also very accurate. Good luck

I like the ole "interlock"---180 grain Hornady spire point. I use it for everything----elk, deer, black bear, and antelope. Accurate & deadly. Good Luck---CB

The 150gr Nosler BT was my go to load in the 30-06. It was my "magic load". From now on, the Hornady SST Interbond will be. The 165gr in the 30-06 is the ticket!!! This bullet has the devastating power of the Ballistic Tip, but will stick together if you clip something hard on the way to the vitals. I shot a whitetail buck this year at 60 yards with it loaded hot in my 7mm RUM (139gr @ 3600 fps, my long shot load, go figure..). The bullet clipped the near shoulder, broke two ribs, went off like a time bomb in the chest, and broke three ribs and the far shoulder before lodging under the skin on the far side. The bullet had 80% of its weight, and looked just like the catalogs said it would. I am sold on it.

And it's relatively cheap too!!

Erik
