RE: What is your favorite powder & primers ?

For my .30-06 I have tried Win 748, AA 2460, and IMR 4350. So far, the 4350 seems to be the best, though I may switch to something like 4064 after I get through this one box of Partitions I have, if I can't get them to shoot with this powder. I also shoot Unique powder with cast bullets in my other .30-06 for fun. For my .223 Rem, I can get 1" groups all day long with Win 748. In my 8mm, Mauser, I use 4350 also, though I may change to 4064 or another also if I can't get the current batch of bullets to shoot with that powder. In my .45, I use Win 231. Haven't tried anything else. Only reason I may change, is if I get into serious competition, in which case I will definately try to get the tightest groups possible, but for plinking with lead bullets, no reason to fret to much. I use CCI primers for everything. A while back, I thought I was having mis-fires with them, but traced that to a firing pin problem. Good luck.

My preference is IMR powders and Federal primers. Very consistant and reliable.

All the rifle cartridges I reload have a medium sized case, so I try IMR 4064 first, I haven't had a problem finding an accurate loading with this powder yet. I like IMR 4350 for the 30-06 for hunting loads, but I still use 4064 for my match loads.
Primers- I use federal 210s or 210Ms in bolt guns, and WLRs and occasionally CCI-34s in semiautos.

Pistol- I use W231 in the .45 auto as I only run cast bullets through it and this stuff works great.

The rifles I own seem to prefer IMR 4064 in terms of accuracy. It seems to group better than IMR 3031 and IMR 4831, especially when near maximum loads.

Haven't experimented much with primers, but I use Federals. These seem to be the most predominantly available in my area.

I've reloaded brass from PMC, Remington and Winchester. The PMC brass is not terribly consistent, and many primer holes are off center. The Remington and Winchester seem ok. Someday I'm going to spring for some Norma brass and see if it is as good as folks say it is.

Alliant red dot, green dot, unique and Blue dot and federal 209A and CCI 209M for my shotshell loads. I use various combinations depending on the bullet styles for best accuracy.

the Hornet's eat lil-gun, 22-250, 243, 280AI, 375H&H, 45-70 all use Varget, 4064 or 3031... CCI sm pistol for the hornet's, CCI BR for the 22-250, 243 and 280AI, CCI MAG for the 375H&H and sometimes the 45-70 with heavy loads...

I think H4831SC is my favorite powder just because it does so well in my 25-06 behind a 120 Gr Game King.

People were speaking of favorite brass, a good old friend of mine who is retired from the military gave me a wooden box of mostly match brass, that I can barely pick up, that he kept from the shooting he did on the pistol team...I was helping him move (you find out who your true friends are when you get ready to move) and he pointed at it and said "that box of 45 brass is yours" of course I said I cant take it, but he said he'd leave it at the curb then...LOL!

Anyway, having brass that actually means something to you is almost a pain...Keeping one eye on the target and the other one on the spent caseings so you dont lose one. :-))

RE: What is your favorite powder & primers ?

My preference for powder is primarily determine what shoots best in the cartridge/rifle/pistol I shoot. Rifles powders, I'm partial to Hodgdon because they are not sensitive to temperature, but if Reloader, IMR, or some other powder does better, that's what I'm using.
Once I find a powder that performs, I buy a lot of it at one time. That way I don't have to start over with my load development every time I run out of a 1-lb can. I shoot several cartridges that do very well with H4831 & H4350.
Primers, partial to Federal, but Winchester and CCI work just fine.
