A short action 270 would make a great caliber for kids and smaller framed women. I shoot the 270 wsm and like it so far. I will be looking for a rifle for my nine year old for next season. I plan to look at the 30-30 or a 7mm-08.

In Wayne Van Zwoll's book, "Modern Sporting Rifle Cartridges" he describes the .270 Redding. This is simply a .243 or .260 necked up to .277 and given a 30-degree shoulder by fireforming. This really would be ballistically almost indistinguishable from a 7mm 08 - versatile and light recoiling, and nearly duplicating the ballistics of the standard .270 Winchester. But I like the idea of having a unique, short action .270, light recoiling and certainly as deadly as the 7mm 08.

Once the barrel was bored to the cartridge, creating the round is as simple as making improved rounds. And as KareImp said, what better way to pass the cold winter nights. One man's time and trouble is another man's passionate project.
