Primers...

What do most folks use to insert prmers? Is the RCBS hand primer a good choice?

Another vote for the RCBS Hand Priming Tool. I've primed probably 2000 rounds of ammo with mine so far without a hiccup. I've had it since I started handloading (it came with the very good and economical Rockchucker Supreme Master Kit), but just for s**ts and giggles I tried the press priming thing once, and decided that I'd never use it again. The hand priming tool is the way to go, IMO.

hand priming all the way.

I started with the press for priming. It took for ever and was uncomfortable. I had a friend with a Hornady or Lee or something or other and I tried it. The next chance I got, I bought a RCBS. No reason to go with RCBS, other than it looked a little heavier than the lee and I have primarily RCBS stuff. It definately speeds up the process.

sorry, spelling error

The only LEE tool that I own is the autoprime and I prefer it to the RCBS tool.

On the single stage press I use the Lee auto prime and on the progressives its done automatic . I only use them on shotgun and pistol rounds .

I have both the Lee Autoprime and the RCBS tool. I like the Lee better. The Lee does not work on my 338 RUM. The cases on the RUM is too fat to fit in the Lee tool.

I like the feel of the Lee better, it seems like I can feel the pressure better, and I am more confident the primers are all being set the same depth. The Lee does tire my hand more than the RCBS. The Lee is less Expensive. The RCBS has several pieces to the kit, the only pieces to the Lee are the shell holders, extra pieces are just something else to get lost or forgotten. Also, the primers do not bridge as much in the Lee as they do in my RCBS. They do still bridge once in a while, but not nearly as often.

When I first started using the RCBS, the comfortable way to prime had the primers pointed directly at my face, I had to make some changes so the tool was not directed toward me. You may have a different natural grasp on the tool, the only point here is there is no replacement for putting each in your hand to see which is most comfortable.

I use the Lee for everything except the RUM.

lee auto prime, many years of use, great little tool. have not tried the rcbs version it looks good also, the one thing i was sure of is that i didn't want to use my press[:@] because of the time factor.

I see that most are using the lee. I can't comment on the lee because I have never used
on. In RCBS I have used a bench mounted priming tool and a hand priming tool. Both
work well. However the hand priming tool has a better feel for depth control . I just like Rcbs because in 30 years of reloading Rcbs has given me,with nocost at all, any rcbs
parts that I needed. I have used other type of lee equipment and they make a fine
product also.
