I run mine through every time they are shot. That way it don't take as long to clean them up nice and shiney.

I usually carry a scotch green scrub pad in my ammo box and wipe the carbon off the necks at the range. I tumble everything that I full length size to get the lube off as much as anything. For neck sized stuff and pistol ammo, about every four or five shots maybe.

Not as often as I should about every third loading. Good luck

Thanks for the replies!! I was wondering if I did it too often, I was polishing it each time I loaded them.

I don't have a tumbler, I just clean them up manually and let them go. I've been reloading about two years. Am I doing something wrong by not tumbling or is it purely cosmetic.

rocky,

there are 2 main issues of concern when dealing with brass.

1) It is easier to spot problems (such as hairline cracks) on nice clean brass.

2) Fouled brass tends to foul dies

When it comes to mechanical issues (like press-forming brass) - clean is always better. It's possible to become too anal about cleaning brass - but it's hard to imagine how. :)

Oh....... In answer to the question "how often do I tumble".........

FIGHT4YOURGUNS,
I tumble cases at least twice for every loading. When I bring them home from the range, I use a decapping die to knock out the primers and use a Lyman tool to clean the pockets. After cleaning the carbon off the necks I tumble them. Once clean I resize and trim for length and tumble them the second time. This way they size easy and donot scratch the die.

RE: How often do you tumble??

I guess I need a tumbler. When it comes to hunting, I spend all my budget buying necassary things and I guess the tumbler was something I thought I could get by without but I guess it's going on my necessity list. Thanks for the info.
