115 grain Nosler Ballistic tips.

I picked up some of these for the 25-06. I have IMR 4831, H 4831, RE 19 and RE 22. I also have IMR4350. Have any of you used these powders and if so which worked best in your gun. My Manuals show top loads of from 2908 with RE 22 to 3116 with IMR 4350. The hotest loads are from the Nosler Manual. I am not looking for the maximum load and anything in the 2800-2900 fps is plenty. I have had pretty good luck with H 4831 with the 100 grain BT. Thanks!

Thanks. I just jumped up a small notch to the 25-06 from the Roberts. I have quite a bit of 257 +P brass someone just as well have. I have been trying to simplify my reloading by cutting a few calibers.

I shot three deer with the 25-06 the last two days. One with the 115 grain Balistic tips and two with 100 grain balistic tips. The 100 grains were going about 3040 fps and the 115 grains at 2935 fps. At 100 yards both rounds hit in the same spot up and down. At longer range I suppose they would not quite keep the same trajectory. However two deer dropped in their tracks and the last one, a 100 grain hit ran about 30 yards. The hit was a little high but got one lung. I don't see me straying far from the balistic tips in this gun for deer although I may try a few other bullets. I like the Sierra pro-hunters in 280 and 308 so I might try them and the Hornady SST. If I use it for elk I would go to the Barnes X bullet only.

Did the 115 BT get full penetration on the Deer??? How about the 100's??? If not what did the bullets look like, and what were the wound channels like??? (nosy aren't I??;);):D)

4831 and 4350 seem to be where I would START. You may not get the desired velocity with the 4350. Checking my reloading records I use 4831 and RL 19. I believe I was pushing a 115 BT with 51 gr of 4831 somewhere around 3050? (trying to remember) I think I stayed with the 4831 because it gave me decent grouping with the 115 gr BT for deer and the 85 BT for groundhogs, trying to keep it simple.:)

forgot to add one thing 51 grs of 4831 is close to max in my gun, my notes say 53gr started showing signs of pressure, bolt was a little hard to open.

Ended up shooting four deer. Three with the 100 grain one with the 115. All shots except one was a pass through. One hundred grain bullet was found under the hide in the far side. It went in behind a rib and went through most of the shoulder. I found the jacket and then the bullet core a few inches further in. It felt like most of the bullet was still there. All wound channels were pretty extensive due to rather poor shot placement on my part. This was a new rifle and although it shot well from the bench, it needs trigger work to bring it to its best. It will get that attention soon now that the rifle season is done.

The older Ruger 77 with a 24 inch barrel. Its a synthetic stock but not like the new ones. I bought it new but it sat in the store for several years. They kept dropping the price until I could not resist it. What a shooter. I talked to a gun smith today about getting a Timney trigger put in it. The trigger is a little tough and they are not adjustable. He said he could stone it down but I still wouldn't have an adjustable trigger. I have a 6.5x55 Mauser with a timney trigger. Man you can't beat them for a hunting trigger. They will go down to about two pounds if you want. I think about three will do it.

Not much use yet but the 100 grain and 115 grain seem to perform about the same. I might try the Hornady sst and the new Accubond. I have had good luck with the 120 grain Partition as well. In the Roberts that is. Have not tried them in the Ruger.
