Reverse engineering Remington Managed Recoil loads
 

How would you go about reverse engineering a factory load? My son likes shooting the managed recoil loads and I would like to be able to duplicate them. Would I look up the ballistics/trajectory of the factory load and then check the powder/bullet weight formulas to find a close match?

Any help will be appreciated.

Kelbro, That seems like it would work. Looking at Remington's Managed Recoil loads, they are loading "light" for caliber bullets in the 270 Win and 30-06 and their velocities are alot lower than they can actually be driven. So in choosing a lighter bullet weight and using less powder in a particular load you can reduce recoil dramatically. I would pay close attention on what bullet you load though, the premiums such as the Barnes X and various bonded cores wouldnt work well at reduced speeds.

I am lookin this same thing up for a friend . In my Lyman manual it lists for the 125 gr bullet (Rem load 125 gr bullet at 2660 fps) in Win. case & Win. LR primer

I have some 3031 so we are going to try the lowest load for his son.
The litest loads should not be reduced .

Translation please!

I know that H-4831 is a powder.

I guess that 55.0 gr is the powder measure.

2550 fps is velocity.

What's 30000 CUP and the 61.5?

Check out some different reloading manuals. Most list reduced loads for .30-06. My Speer book lists reduced loads for 130 - 165 grain bullets. I know that Hodgdon and winchester also give reduced loads.

30000 CUP is the pressure mesured in coper units of pressure
The 61.5 is the top load

Managed Recoil loads are for non handloaders. They should be very easy to replicate

go to this link http://www.hodgdon.com/data/youth/index.php hodgdon has a list of several loads for various calibers which are recoil managed loads using H4895 powder. hodgdon says you can reduce loads as much as 60% from maximum with H4895.

As mentioned above, be very careful NOT TO REDUCE LOADS OF SLOW BURNING POWDER This can be extremely dangerous. Much worse than an overload in most cases. I would not reduce 4320 or anything slower than that. I about ruined a good gun with reduced loads of 4320. in a 30-06.
