A Necking Down Question
 

I have hand loaded 357 magnums before.

So I know some about reloading.

My Question is.

Is it hard to neck down cases to hand load custom loads and would it be easyer to get allready

Necked down cases ?

Depends on what your necking down, and how far your going.

If you going down several calibers, then you would probable be better off buying factory brass in that cal... If you neck a case down too far, then you will probable have to neck ream the cases, or maybe even have to turn the necks...

Like i said, it all depends on what your starting with, and where your going with it.

I would say that unles its an obsolete case, its easier to just buy the correct brass to begin with. like said above you may run into other problems like case neck thickness, or you may have to use an intermediate die (like using a .280 die, then a .270 die to get from .30-06 cases).

I obtained 200 pieces of 8mm Rem. Mag. brass for $50.00 at a gun show, and necked them down to 7mm STW, and had no problem what so ever. I used a Redding fullsizing die, and Imperial Wax for lube. I did turn the necks to minimize cartridge run out, but did not have to. Good luck.
