Question on reloading Nickel Plated cases?

Do they have to be new or can they be fired? How many times can they be reused? I heard you have to have carbide dies and I didn't know if that was true.

Thanks

Do they have to be new or can they be fired? THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE NEW!! How many times can they be reused? Depends on how hot you load them. They'll last as long as brass ones! I heard you have to have carbide dies and I didn't know if that was true. NOT TRUE! You can use plain ol' dies, like I do!

Thanks

I agree with Eldeguello. I have stopped using nickel cases. The inside of the neck is very coarse and will often peel some of the bullet jacket off when seating a bullet. This is after the case has been neck sized and the case mouth chamfered inside & out. I think if I were going to use nickel cases I would buy an inside neck reamer and smooth the inside of the case neck.

I have used nickel cases for years ,I use carbide ( pistol) dies . The nickel dose flake off some times and the cases split a little more.
For rifle I like the looks but the cases tend to split a little more often . The cases tend to fail in reforming a lot more ,like making 7-08 out of 308 cases

Is the case capacity similar to brass? I've reloaded them before with no problems but it's been a while and I can't remember what I did with the powder amounts. I know I use slighlty less powder (.5 grain) for my hot loads if I'm using Remington cases as opposed to Norma cases. Something tells me the nickel cases might have a slightly smaller case capacity due to the thick case walls. I could be wrong but it's better to go on the side of caution. You can always work the loads up.
