RE: needed equip
Start with a good manual for metalic reloading and one for shot shell fiirst. Lyman makes a good one for both types of reloading. After you have read the how to section a few times you will get a grasp of the tools you will need. Not to scare you but you will need three presses. They make conversion kits for the shot shell pressses but most people buy a press that's set up for either 12 or 20 GA as it's easier that way. Then the other press is for the metalic cartridges.

RE: needed equip
lee makes an affordable starter kit with everything you need to get started in metalic cartridge reloading.

RE: needed equip
Lee is cheap and works well if you don't load a lot.If you plan on a lot of reloading or loading large cases consider a R.C.B.S. reloading kit as their presses are much stronger and more durable.

RE: needed equip
For shotshells there are few presses better or more affordable than MEC.
I reloaded shotshells as a kid (because it was the only way dad could afford to take me and my brother to the trap range), and we had a MEC press that worked great and was easy to use. I don't reload shotshells anymore because for me there is no economy in it. I do reload metallic cartridges, and I've been VERY happy with my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme. I bought the Master Kit, along with dies and a few other little things, and it works very well. Lee makes cheap equipment that will do the job. Most of it isn't fancy, but it works. It's my personal opinion that it is a waste of money to skimp from the start, only to spend twice as much later to make up for an unwise purchase the first time. Buy a Rockchucker now and you'll be happy for years. Buy an el Cheapo Lee press, and in a month you'll wish you had just bought the RCBS to begin with. Good luck, Mike |
RE: needed equip
thanks for the insight and i will be checkin into presses i think my uncle has a shot loader im going to see if i can get it
by the way do we have a trekkie in here? |
RE: needed equip
The manuals will sure steer you in the right direction. As for presses, I'd go with one that will outlast you, RCBS is one that will. Been a fan of theirs since the 70's. Went and upgraded to the RCBS Pro 2000 when it came out. Real happy with it. As for shotshell, MEC is real hard to beat. 25-30yrs. ago the little LEE LOAD-ALL was a good one for a starter. Loaded many, many rounds on one. From what I've heard though, they're not much count anymore. Guess they started building them cheaper than what they already were. Just what I heard.
