Another question.. primers?
Greets,
Well most of you know I have been working on this load for a while, so I wont go into data details. I do have a question, In a past post one of the answers indicated the use of CCI 250 primers, and h414 powder. I think it was Ndterminator answer to me. I did the research decided on a load, and now I am procuring the supplies. My data doesnt specify a primer type, so I went with the suggested CCI 250's. These are magnum primers, is that going to pose a problem? I know in shotshell loading it can make a big difference, or so I have read in the books. ( actually it did make a difference in my loads, got more punch out of a mild shell by switching to a hotter primer ). But now I am loadin 30-06 for both accuracy and hunting power. this primer wont hurt will it? Just my uneducated opinion! Terry |
RE: Another question.. primers?
My Speer manual lists the magnum primer with h414 except with the 180 grain bullets.

RE: Another question.. primers?
Thanks herman, that makes me feel better, knowing that a book lists them together helps! I need to get some updated books, mine is quite old. Guess I better make another trip to Bi mart *G*

RE: Another question.. primers?
If your loads are a little under MAX, substitution of a magnum primer will PROBABLY not cause any unsafe condition. But check out the first few fired cases carefully to see that there are no signs of undue pressures.

Greets,
Thanks fer the warning eldeguello, I will definately watch the cases closely, planning several loads to test starting with a very mild load. Found a listing in my load manual that actually recommends magnum primers with H414 anyhow, but better to be safe than sorry so I had to ask. Just my uneducated opinion! Terry |
RE: Another question.. primers?
Terry, I use magnum primers on everything I shoot. I have never experienced a problem with them in the more than ten years that I have been using them. I use them on 30-30,30-06, 280 Rem, 35 Rem, 7mm Mag,
30-378 Wby. & 300 win mag. Best of luck....Cag |
