Whats ideal for a .243???? just got one!
I just bought a savage 16fxp3 package in .243 plan to use it for deer. Again I'm wondering which is the best round for deer... all your posts last time helped me allot! I was leaning towards either winchesters 95gr. BST or remington premier scirocco bonded 100gr.( believe it is) bullets. I have no experience with a .243 what so ever, and do not reload yet, any help would be greatly appreciated.....

You can't go wrong with the Nosler Partition in 100 grains if your rifle likes them.

I have always be very well served with the federal premium loading of 100gr Sierra gameking bT. Between my sister, and I that load or a handloaded duplicate have taken close to 20 whitetails in the last 8 years. Never had a deer go more than 20 yards and never had to shoot one twice. I have had double shoulder penetration on 3 of them. From ranges of 75-280 yards it has worked like a champ. Two of these deer feild dressed over 150lbs, on was a 168lb 7pt and the other was a 175lb old dry doe. The doe was just plain huge. The average deer in my hunting area dressed out from 120-135lbs.

if you were a reloader I would highly recommend the barnes 85 grain triple shock X-bullet.but since you are not the next best thing would be Hornadys custom ammunition 95 grain sst or remingtons premier 95 grain accutip. You really cannot go wrong with a 95 grain bullet in a 243
but even a 75 grain bullet will knock a whitetail down. Thats why I love the 243 it is so versatile so many different loadings in factory ammo and choices of bullets for the reloader. Good luck |
