.500 S&W
is anyone reloading for the S&W .500? I am in the process of buying oneand the problem is this, i have a Lee pro 1000 that I use for my .44 mag, but Lee is not making a shellplate for the .500 that fits the pro 1000. i'm going to have to get another reloader, but I'm not sure which one to buy without spending a fortune! any ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks, craig

RE: .500 S&W
Lee makes a cast iron single stage now at a nice price. I would find a cast bullet load at 800-900 fps . BIG BOOM

RE: .500 S&W
You might check your local Classified ads for a good deal on a used press, sometimes they come up for sale. It needs to be a good strong one, preferably an 'O' design. One thing's for sure, whatever you get it will pay for itself in a hurry, loading the .500 S&W.
P.S. I use the Lee dies for the 500, they work great. A carbide set, with load data for $19.95. I don't know anything about Lee presses. I load mine on a Rockchucker. |
RE: .500 S&W
A friend of mine loads for his 454 casull and 450 marlin on a lee challenger O style press. I have one too but use it mainly for .38's 357's and 45 acp its probably the best press you will ever find for less then 50 bucks new, But personally I would go ahead an spend the extra 40 bucks and get a rock chucker. Lee came out with a new press called the "Classic Cast" Might be worth looking at.

Lee classic cast press is a nice one, and they only cost about $55. I have one as a second press. Good piece of equipment.
