Ackley improved chamber of 30/06
As you know, by my name I own an 8mm/06. I am taking it in for some work and was wondering if anybody out there with a 30/06 Ackley improved chamber believes that such an improvement to my 8mm/06 chamber would be worth it. Many of the articles discussing the benefits of the 8mm/06 wildcat often mention that the Ackley improved version offers benefits beyond the slight boost in speed. It also assists in case life because of the way the case is supported in the chamber.
Any thoughts. I'll be taking this to the reloading page also to get as many responses as possible. |
RE: Ackley improved chamber of 30/06
Hi 8mm/06,
Ackley Improved cases tend to need neck trimmed considerably less often than their standard counterparts. Which in turn does help improve case life. The sharper shoulders do not permit the flow of brass as readily as the standards. Dave |

That's what I was trying to determine......that is, what was the case life advantage I had read about.
Thanks........I'm considering this move since I already have to handload this non-standard anyway.the beauty is that I can still use the venerable and affordable 30/06 case whether I go with the deeper and sharper ackley version or not. It's really something I'm considering, since I already have a standard 30/06, and with the 8mm/06 I'm relegated to the handloading anyway..I was figuring...why not gain a little velocity and case life all in one.....Very seriously thinking about it. |
