7mm RESULTS
#1
I reloaded a ton of different loads last week and wasn't too impressed with my findings. I interchanged 5 powders and 6 different bullets varying in weight and style and only ended up with about 3 good loads. Do you guy's who shoot & reload for your 7mm get stunning results at 100, 200 & 300 yds. I did get 3/4" at 100 but nothing better than a 4" group at 200. Is this realistic for a magnum load? I was told it is. Comments please...JDinAB

Well thats really my concern as well...at 100 I think it's remarkably well, butt no matter what I do 200 is just plain inconsistent. I even went and bought a shooting vice so I made sure it wasn't me. I guess I'll just keep trying[

It's NOT jusy about gun movement! As the range increases, you have other things to deal with includeing, heat waves, wind, paralax ect...
Shooting tight groups at extended ranges takes a lot of practice in dealing with the above conditions!!

I was just wandering what type of rifle that you are useing, what type and bullet weights you were shooting, and how you went about trying them out ?
Was it in the heat of the day for every shot or one after anouther?
There are far too many factors to try to justify the reloads not being what they should be.
Just courious. what was some of your reloads? Powder type, Primers, cases, bullets, weights of the bullets and how much did you tinker with the loads?
I have three good reloads for this pertic. round that has worked very well in almost all of the 7mm mags that I have tried them in.

I am using a Carl Gustaf 7mm Rem Mag with a 3.5-10 Zeiss Conquest. As for the bullets...this is the run down: 110 gr TNT, 140gr Silvertip, 150gr XBT, 150gr Nos. part, 154gr SST, 162gr Hornady int. Temp was about 15deg. C & absolutely no wind! I did shots of 3 and waited for the barrel to cool. I am using cci magnum primers and all federal brass, powders are as follows: H414, H870, H1000, H4350, Reloader 22 & IMR 7828. I loaded every combination available using just under max loads for each. Now that I have 4 ok loads at 100 I'm gonna try tinkering with them and see if I can group a bit better at 200. JDinAB

jd, I shoot a ruger 7mm mag with a pillar bedded stock and timney trigger. I shoot under 3 inch groups at 300 yards but to do that I had to go past the recommended max loads. At or under max loads, I couldn't hit a 3 inch group at 100 yards. I cautiously say that I think all the powder max loads are now very conservative.
I shoot 68-1/2 grains of H4831. I think the max load on the can is about 62 grains with a 140 grain ballistic tip bullet. I worked very slowly up to the load I'm shooting in 1/2 grain increments and as I did my groups got better. However, at 69-1/2 grains my bolt got stiff to open so I dropped back to 68-1/2 and that's what I shoot. At 400 yards, I can shoot a five inch group that is almost all verticle, in other words there is very little left to right movement.
I've since changed bullets to nosler partitions and lost a very small amount of accuracy but to me its a better deer bullet.
