Substitute Primer
I'm just getting back into reloading after being away from hunting for 7 years. Anyway, I just got a new nosler reloading guide and it calls for Rem 9 1/2 primers for my .243. Of course there is no place in town that has them. So I was planning on using CCI 200's instead. CCI and Winchester are the only primers I can find in town.
Any other suggestions? From what I've read on a previous post there isn't a big difference between the brands as far as substituting. |
RE: Substitute Primer
I've never found any difference in which large rifle primer I used.....Shotguns are a different story buy rifle loading I wouldn't hesitate to use a different primer than the one the "book" calls for.
As always you start about 10% off max loads and work up. |
RE: Substitute Primer
Ditto, what vapodog sez. I use Winchester primers by choice but have had no problems switching to CCI or Federal.

RE: Substitute Primer
I don't think there is much difference in the performance of the primers the only difference I've found is the hardness of the cup on the primer. I like Winchester and Federal primers and can pretty much keep the point of impact with handloads.

RE: Substitute Primer
Thanks for the replies. Went and bought some CCI 200's last night. Unfortunately my hunting partner is out of town this weekend which will leave me no place to test my loads.
Thanks again. |
