Well,

I guess Remington will end up discontinuing the 7mm Ultra Mag because they are now only offering one option in this cartrige.

I like the way mine shoots. Does anyone have any opinions on this rifle? Mine is in the Scindero and has been modified with a custom bull barrell muzzel break and trigger job.

I hate to sell it, so I guess I will have to start reloading. Has anyone had any luck with reloading for this cartrige?

Wow, I see they did away with just about all Partition loads for the 300RUM also. Kinda shocked.

IF you own a rifle you really like, you owe it to yourself and to the rifle to load the best ammo available for it, which means a handload! Regardless of what the factories do or don't do!!

YES, if you reload you'll never have to worry about what the factory does or doesn't do. You should still be able to get cases even if they discontinue all factory ammo, 7mm bullets are easy to find.

I wouldn't get too upset most manufacturers will do that from time to time and Remington is infamous for doing that. A caliber like that requires handloading to reach its maximum potential...you can also throttle back loads for target practice in the off season and then push them up a few notches for hunting season.

I've been in this fix ever since I got my .35 Whelen. Remington is the only supplier (to my knowledge) and only in two bullets. Fortunately, I do reload, and the day I got it, dies were ordered. Same thing with my bolt action 30-30. NO ONE has crtridges for spitzers for fear that someone mught use them in a tubular magazine. I don't have a lever in that caliber.

Stone,

Your ultra mag is a cartridge made to be handloaded. You can reload a more accurate and powerful load over the factory one.

I hate to boast but all these wildcat magnums won't sit on the shelf forever. And remington is losing to winchester bigtime. Especially in the short action magnum class. I did think some of the remington ultra mags would last. Its hard to beat the 7mm STW for being the power house but the RUM seems to have a bit more ummph.

I have never understood Remingtons reason for discontinuing the 8mm rem mag. As far as a big bore round it was one that had both power and tragectory. Things change and some don't last the test of times. But I think as long as you stock up on cases for reloading you won't have a problem.

I think remington was just waiting for thier "ultra" bullet and used the partition for a while. But now federal has the reigns and is selling brass and cartridges. I don't think people like me care that they quit making this or that, but more worried it was a sign of the times and 300RUM wasn't selling well. but then I checked out the information, and RUM ammo sales are not down for 300RUM. Then read thru the Q3 2003 results. Seems like they are taking a beating from Olin Winchester on sales and are slimming down their product lines. Also seems thier total centerfire sales are significantly down. On the conference calls, they try to say that the fact that Rugers stock is significantly down, that they are very competiive. The fact is or I guess opinion, from my standpoint, is WSM's really hurt the sales of good ole cartidges like the 30-06 and 270. People wanted the new offereings but Remington didn't jump on the sales of rifles in the WSM. This was a risky move putting thier money on their short action mags. There is tons of financial analyst data out there and the information is there. Hey in every business venture, there is losers and winners.

But from inside numbers for some reason, 870 express sales are way down. Not sure why. They blame it on harsh wet weather. Every one elses shotgun sales are down too.
