25-06 bullets

I currently use Nosler ballistic Tips in 115gr. They are very, very accurate but i have read that the 115 gr Partition was the ultimate bullet for the 25-06. ANyone on here use the 115gr Partition? If so what kind of results on deer have you had with them?......Or if not the 115gr Partiton what bullet are you shooting and what kinda results?

I never used the 115 Partition, but have used the 100-grain Partition! I believe the 115 is MORE than adequate for the biggest deer, +++! It would make a great caribou load. The only deer I ever shot with a .25/'06 was with the Sierra 117-grain bullet. It hit the critter in the spinal column just behind the shoulder, and took out a section about 6" long! The deer hit the ground so hard he bounced! But of course, with such a hit, it was no real test of the cartridge or the bullet. Any caliber would have performed about as well, I suppose. But I have found the .25/'06 to be almost more than you need for deer. It's as good as the .257 Weatherby Magnum.

RE: 25-06 bullets

I own a Smith & Wesson model 1500 in 25-06. I handload so I have tried many different brands of bullet and powder. When I first bought the rifle I did try some factory ammo so I would have once fired brass. I bought 2 boxes of Federal Premium 115 gr. partitions. Out of my rifle (it has a 22" barrel) I got 2954 fps and 5/8" groups. That is good velocity and excellent 100 yard groups. I haven't shot any deer with the partition. Like you I load the 115 gr. B-Tip. I have used the partition on feral hogs. One in particular weighed a little over 300 lbs. One shot at 135 yards and the hog dropped. I shot it broadside in the shoulder the bullet entered and exited the offside shoulder. I would say the partition is the best all around bullet for the 25-06. It is surely plenty for deer. If you would be hunting something larger like elk, I would go with a larger caliber. If you' re determined to use the 25-06 take broadside lung shots and use a controlled expansion bullet like the partition, Barnes X, Swift A-Frame, etc.
