30.06 moose load any suggestions?
Hello! I have a moose hunt in Newfoundland coming up in September. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a load. The outfitter says shots in the 75-200 yard range are most common. Thanks for any replies..........John

I'd use the Nosler accubond 200 grain or the 200 grain Swift a-frame.
You should come close to 2800'/sec working up a load with RL22 or IMR7828 in a 22" barrel.

Hi Pace Maker,
You'd have trouble finding better bullets than Vapodog suggested. If you should run into difficulty finding either of those 200 grain Nosler Partitions will do anything on Moose, needing done. Work the load that shoots best in your particular rifle.....but don't compromise on the bullet.
Good luck on your hunt.

I'm sorry.........I left out what kind of .06 it was. It's a model 700 bolt. Thanks for the replies, looking forward to this hunt and figured if I could get any info on a load it'd help. I figured this was the place to ask.....John

180 Barnes Triple Shock would be a great bullet for moose. People have had great luck with accuracy with them as well.
The previous bullets mentioned are all excellent choices as well.
Think penetration! On an animal that big at those yardages, accuracy is not your main concern.

My last two bulls (both in the 1,200 lb range) were killed with 180 grain ballistic tips on top of 48.5 grains of IMR 4320. Both were quick/clean kills. The longest shot was about 70 yds.

A 200-grain @ 2800 is treading right on the heels of the .300 Win. mag.!!
