250-3000 loads
I am going to start loading for a 99 savage in 250-3000. I am going to begin loading 100gr Speer btsp and Hornady 100gr sp for the bullet (I have a box of both). Going to try using win 760 ball powder to start (also have). I haven't had any success with 760 but it was all in longer cases (06, 8mm) though I would give it a try.
1. Just wondering what anybody's bullet/powder combination worked for them? 2. Have you had any success with heavier bullets (115bt, 117g, 120g)? I know every guns different but maybe somone's pet load will be the ticket, thank for you responses |

RE: 250-3000 loads
Had good luch using H414, which is almost the same thinbg as WW760. But was operating at max pressures in a bold-action! In a 99, you need to be more restrained!

RE: 250-3000 loads
The 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tip with H 414 is what has shot the best in my wifes Bolt Action 700 Rem Calssic. Barnes 100 grain X bullets shot well with the same powder. The 250 is not real pick about loads and is generally pretty accurate and most of all, it a very shootable gun. Recoils is about as close to Nill as you can get and it kills deer way beyond what is would seem on paper. The 250 is absolutely at its best with 100 grain bullets for deer and antelope. The 87's work well for coyotes and other big varmits. I shoot that and the 257 Roberts more for deer that anything else of late. The 257 Roberts is sort of a 250 Magnum.

RE: 250-3000 loads
Well, ask one question maybe have another answered. My currect project is getting 180gr bullets to shoot 1" groups out of my 06. My currect load of 4350 is not working (to my supries). I was looking into 4895 or h380 for next choice of powder, for some reason I was totally looking over h414, which shows good velocity/pressure out of both 06 & 250. H414 will be the direction I will take with the 06, then I can compare 760 to h414 in the 250.
-As for bullets I was reloading a 25-06 last year so I have a good choice to choose from. I liked the 100gr Balistic tips in the 25-06 but only have 4 left. -I still have a box of 75gr serria hp that I will use for coyotes. -The reason I was asking about heavier bullets is I have a box of 115 Ballistic Tips left over, I can afford to lose some velocity since my longest shot on a deer will be 200yds. Next month I will start my 250-3000 project, the snow may be only knee deep by then. I have to say this is the fun stage of reloading. (vapodog not to overlook rl-15 just never used that brand of powder, will keep in mind if all else fails) Thanks |

RE: 250-3000 loads
I have had good luck with 414 in the 30-06 as well. Lately I have been working more and more with Reloader 15 as well.
