I was target practicing with some rounds i loaded about a year ago. fired a few shots, no problem. Then i loaded another round, pulled the trigger, and 'click'........ no bang, no pop, nothing. i ejected the cartridge, and the bullet was lodged a few inches into the barrel. And a bunch of unburned powder spilled out. I'm puzzled that if it didnt fire, how did the bullet get lodged in the barrel? And why didnt it fire?

If the bullet was a couple of inches down the barrel the primer must have fired or you have the mother of all firing pin springs. LOL. It sounds like some how the powder got contaminated and wouldn't burn. Possibly sizing die lube, or some other solvent. What is your OAL? Your load may be touching the lands and because it didn't fire when you opened the action the bullet pulled out of the case and stayed stuck in the barrel. But that would be right in the throat not a couple of inches down the barrel. It happened to me before. Try chambering a few rounds and cycling them through the action with out firing them. In all cases practice muzzle control if you have live ammo in your gun.

more likely, there wasn't enough powder in the casing ........especially when using a powder measure and running out of powder, some casings are short and "no" charged because we forget to refill the powder baffle.

The primer pushed the bullet into the barrel, but for some reason, the powder did not burn completely, if at all. It's a good thing you realized something was wrong and did not fire another round, which would have wrecked your rifle!![:o]

It would be interesting to know what type of powder you were using? I've been reloading for over 38 years and never had a misfire until last year when I was working up a load for my 45-70. I had 3 MFs using Reloader #7 powder. The same thing happened to me. The primer went off and the bullet lodged in the barrel. Luckily we were also shooting our muzzleloaders so I used the ramrod to tap the bulllet out of my Marlin.
When I examined the powder when I got home, I noticed it had a greenish hue to it. It was the first time I used Reloader #7 and not sure what color it should be. I am use to the IMR powders which is black in color. The RL-7 went down the sink and I am now using H4198. No more problems.
