What type of tumbler media do you prefer?
Just wondering which type of media you prefer to use in your tumbler, corncob or ground walnut hulls?
The brass I have isn't too nasty. I don't, and won't, be collecting any brass other than that which I fired. My 22-250 brass is pretty cleam except for a little powder residue and mild tarnish because it never hits the ground (gotta love controlled feed bolts, eh!:)). My .45 brass is a little dirtier because it hits the ground when fired (semi-auto pistol), but like I said, I only collect the brass I've just fired. I don't pick up the brass other people have left on the range that's had a chance to become really scuzzy. Mike |

I've been using corncob with excellent success.

I use corncob media and treat it with Iosso brass polish or Midway's Frankford Arsenal brass polish. It puts a tremendous shine on the brass, even better than new! My brass doesn't ever hit the ground either so it doesn't get in bad shape to begin with.

I use walnut media for an initial cleaning before resizing and then follow up with treated corncob to clean off the sizing lube and polish to cases all nice & shiney. :)

Pet store walnut, and pet store corncob. I add a bit of Midway's brass polish to the corncob.
Walnut and corncob are both about $5 for 25 pounds when bought as pet litter, vs $1 to $2 per pound as reloading supplies. |
