range report 168gr Barnes triple shock match
Finally got a chance to work up some loads with this bullet in my .300 win mag.
Best loads were with Imr 4831 Shot three 3 shot groups: .70 .40 .34 were the group sizes at 100 yards. Next best was H4831: Groups were right at 1 inch, and slightly over. These were max groups in my rifle with a 26" barrel. Velocities were at 3390 with both loads. Had the same kind of accuracy with 100gr Triple shocks in my 25-06. These triple shocks are much more accurate than the older style x bullets. Do not try to seat these bullets close to the lands as pressures will jump. These loads were appx. .05 off the lands. |

I'll be trying this bullet in my .308 with 45gr. of Varget. Weather has really been bad lately so I haven't had a chance to try them, will let you know when I do.

savage..............
I've gotten some pretty good results in .308Win using 44.0gr of IMR4064 with heavy mil-spec brass and the bullet seated deep enough to cover all 3 grooves. |

The 168 TSX has been very accurate in my .300 Wby Sako. I love em'. They work very well on whitetail deer too. If I could only have one bullet type, I'd be very happy with this one.

Ooops, I misread the heading, I'll be shooting the XLC's not the triple shocks. I did use the triple shocks in the 150gr. on a buck this year. Veeery empressive! That buck thought he'd been hit by lighting. Very accurate load, 45gr. of Varget also.

Hey noway, does the Triple-Shock have the same ogive as the XLC in the 168gr? I noticed the 168gr. in the XLC had a more rounded and less tapered shaped nose than the other Barnes bullet weights. Also the hollow point was a bit larger than the other Barnes bullets I've tried.

savage,
Not sure. The BC on the 165 xlc is .505 The BC on the 168 xlc is .476. This is the same as the BC for the 168 triple shock. I have not compared the bullet shapes of the Triple shock 168 vs the 168gr xlc. As you may know in the xlc version the 168gr versions are marketed as a match grade bullet (as far as accuracy only with bullet performance the same as the x bullet) and the bullet shape is definitely different than the shape of the 165 grain bullets. The 168gr triple shock is also marketed as having match grade accuracy. You may want to refer your question to the folks at Barnes. Do an internet search on Barnes bullets and their site will come right up. |

That buck thought he'd been hit by lighting. :D;)I'll be making the move to triple shocks when I use up my XLCs. Scott Meier White Oak Lodge |
