Electronic scales?

I was looking at some electronic scales made by OHAUS and they give measurements in grams. For reloading purposes, I need grains. Right? Would I be able to use a scale that reads grams? Also how is the OHAUS electronic scales?

RE: Electronic scales?

Not quite. It would be difficult for lower loads like 8gr of Unique. If you are loading heavy loads for a 300RUM, its possible if the scale can read like 100th of a gram. I have tried this myself. Didn' t work out well. I have heard of this brand but never tried.

Ohaus is a very reputable scale company. They make balance beams for many of the major reloading companys. However please don' t buy their gram scale for reloading.....Make sure you get a scale that is calibrated in grains......Actially I still prefer a balance beam scale....they just work well for me.

I have a set of the RCBS Powder Pro digital scales, made by Pact. they have both gram and grain readings and so far have worked great. I still keep a set of beam scales on hand just in case tho.

Thanks guys, I will pass on fooling around with converting grams to grains. I will hold out until I find something better.

RE: Electronic scales?

Last year I was looking into electronic scales cause its easier on my eyes. But I couldn' t find one that would incriment as fast as I would trickle. They all was very sensitive to wind, or even a washing machine going in the next room. When I was trickling powder, it would take a second or two to update. I came to the conclustion after sending them all back, that I can still do it faster on a beam scale and they update real time. I even tried the powder dispenser from RCBS, and found it way too slow. I can still throw a load faster than that thing dispenses.
