Default Bullet question .375 Winchester

I ordered some of these loads and they shoot pretty good in the Savage 99.

Do y'all think this will be a good load for deer?

Until I get set up to load for this I'm looking for a reliable option. I've also got a few boxes of Winchester 200 grain power point that should be good.

what do y'all think about that 235gr hollow point?

your not going to have any issues killing deer or hogs with a 375 win with any of the ammo listed,

given a choice Id have gone the 235 grain at 2200 fps in factory ammo
speer makes a good bullet for that cartridge
https://www.americanrifleman.org/art...ter-cartridge/
as Im sure your aware, the 375 win is a vastly under appreciated and rather effective cartridge , if used at moderate ranges.
RL7 , H335 and imr 4198 are the preferred propellant's from the results Ive seen.

most guys I know reload using the 375 win, rifles load the speer 235 grain and RL7 about 34 grains

a few guys use cast, gas check bullets in the 250 weight range
this nei mold is used by a friend that owns a single shot falling block in 375 win. and he gets great accuracy.

cast bullets work great, you can use a 235 -255 grain 375 win bullet to hunt damn near any medium game
and yes shot placement is critical as always

just a side note, 454 cassul factory ballistics show a 240 grain bullet at 1900 fps
this is considered a kick butt revolver, cartridge
https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/h...-gr-xtp-mag#!/

your hand-loaded 235 grain cast gas check, bullets in a .375 caliber, fired from a rifle, should exceed 1900 fps,
should rather easily out penetrate a 454 cassul
shoot considerably flatter and obviously produce less recoil and muzzle flash
and from what Ive seen its a noticeably more effective carbine than the 30/30,
which most people acknowledge as a decent deer and hog carbine choice

Ken Waters had better luck with jacketed bullets in the 99 due to shallow rifling in the Savage barrel.Your mileage may differ.

Jake, I'd go with the 200 gr power points. Plenty for deer. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on bear either.

I haven’t hunted anything with a 375win, but I did just have a 94 Big Bore in 375 come into my shop for repair. New in Box, never fired, and needs to stay that way - but during normal fondling, the owner realized it won’t eject. Looks like the extractor is seized, so it won’t be too tough to fix, but still have to find a few rounds to use as dummies. Gorgeous rifle though, and seems like it would be a fantastic thumper.

No time or interest in guns that don't go 'bang!'

Years of use would have kept that extractor working good.
