Default .308/General brass questions . . ."How short is too short?"

Over a period of time of reloading I have accumulated a bunch of .308 brass that is shorter than 2.015. So how short is too short? A quick look around the net would indicate that so long as your neck is as long as your bullet diameter (.308), you're good to go.
Most of it is between 1.995' and 2.004'. It is Lapua so I hate to just toss it.
Also . . . when you are sorting your brass for length, how close do you separate the different sizes? .005" .001? etc

Normally when I trim my brass I trim to .010" below SAAMI standards (2.005"). Your shortest brass at 1.995" is .020" below spec I would still consider safe provided your bullet is seated at least one bullet diameter into the case. Each firing will stretch the neck out a bit. If you're a stickler for squeezing the ultimate accuracy from your rifle I would put the shorter one aside and use them for fouling the bore or hunting. They would be perfectly fine for both.

even .030 short , case lengths, will have very little effect on accuracy in most hunting rifles,
if you have doubts shoot 5 short case length reloads then 5 standard length at the same target
